Bison on the Prairie at Midewin
In late 2015 Midewin welcomed their newest residents, wild bison. Bringing the bison back to this area, where they once roamed free, is part of a plan to restore the prairie ecosystem with more grass and shrub diversity.

Midewin National Tallgrass Prairie is located north of Wilmington, IL with the main entrace to the visitor’s center on Route 66 (route 53).

Gemini Giant
The 30 foot tall statue is one of many giant “Muffler Man” advertising props found throughout the USA in the Sixties. The Gemini Giant is named after the Gemini space program and holds a silver “rocket ship” in his hands while sporting an astronaut’s space helmet that resembles a welding mask.

Sinclair Dinosaur
The small building built as a Sinclair gas station in 1963 now houses G & D Tire & Alignment. In 2001, the owner bought the statue which was previously located in Chattanooga, TN

The Mar Theater
The Mar Theatre opened for business on June 15th 1937. Today much of the Mar is as it was in 1937. In its entire life the building has only been used as a movie theatre. The original stage and decorative ceiling are intact. The lobby and ticket booth area are in the original configuration. Much of the original architectural hardware and lighting fixtures are still in use. The Mar is one of the oldest and the only privately owned operating movie theatre in the Will County Area.

The Eagle Hotel 
Built in 1836, the hotel catered to riverboat and stagecoach travelers. The hotel’s history covers three centuries spanning the Civil War, World War I, and Route 66, including the Great Depression and World War II.
